Rally Jamaica Press Release 1 2013
Rally Jamaica 2013, scheduled for November 29 - December 1, will form part of the 2013 NACAM Rally championship series, a six event loose rally championship series with rounds in Mexico, Costa Rica, Peru, Columbia and Venezuela. Rally organizers are looking to see four competitors from this series entered in the event. Through this association, the event will enjoy a one hour production which will be aired on Fox Sport 1.
Jamaica has so far been the only Caribbean territory to host a leg of the NACAM Rally Championship from as far back as 2002, and once again the excitement will return to its shores.
Rally Jamaica is the second longest running International rally in the Caribbean, and one of the region’s biggest annual motorsports events. It has played host to a number of former world rally champions/competitors, all of whom have had high praises for the fun filled three days in the sun. Competitors from Australia, Europe, Asia, North, Central and South America have all left not just tanned but with great accolades about our island in the sun.
The machinery is world class, the competition is fierce and the rivalry is like no other, with the rally camaraderie being the high point of it all, with action from the thrills and spills of the sport amongst the most entertaining in the world.
In addition to the expected entrants from the NACAM series, seven UK based competitors have stated their intent to enter, with three currently confirmed. Trinidad has indicated interest from ten competitors, with six being definite entrants, while Barbados has indicated interest from two competitors..
The stage format this year remains largely the same as in previous years, with a ceremonial start on Friday in New Kingston followed by a full day of action in the hills of St. Ann on Saturday, using the fast and sweeping Lydford, Haddon Pen and Airstrip stages in the abandoned bauxite mines. On Sunday the rally travels to the famous Bog Walk stages of Wakefield, Bybrook and New Works, then on to the Downtown Kingston stage for the finale.
New components to the event are being organized which may include a car show on Saturday.
The event is sponsored by Knutsford Court Hotel, Tru Juice, Xsomo, Seaboard Shipping, Seafreight Shipping and Advanced Performance Parts.
Rally Jamaica is being organized by Rallysport Promotions Limited on behalf of the Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club.
